When ultra-endurance athlete Rebecca Rusch and professional adventurer Patrick Sweeney decided to ride up Mount Kilimanjaro to benefit World Bicycle Relief this winter, both knew that training was going to be a challenge. For Rusch, who
has lots of professional race obligations, the preparation was compressed into just eight weeks. Sweeney had more time, but he was at a climatological disadvantage: He lives in snowy Chamonix, France, and the trip was in February. Getting any riding in outside was going to be tough.
